NEW PROGRAM COMING SOON... FALL 2025
Program Mission Statement: To honor the dignity and worth of every individual by creating a welcoming, cross-cultural, pay-what-you-can shopping experience, powered by community generosity, that empowers newly arrived immigrant and refugee families to establish new roots.
About the Program
-
Refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants often arrive in the U.S. with limited belongings and little financial capacity to furnish a home. Local nonprofits that serve these populations are frequently overwhelmed and under-resourced, making it difficult to consistently provide essential household goods. Additionally, many low-income residents in the wider community face similar challenges in accessing affordable furniture, home goods, and hygiene items. There is a clear and growing need for a sustainable, dignity-driven model that addresses both access and affordability.
-
New Roots is designed to support nonprofit partners & ethnic congregations who serve immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees. These organizations face an ongoing challenge: helping newly arrived neighbors furnish their homes with dignity, choice, and care. From furniture and home goods to hygiene items, clothing, and other essential needs, the process of building a stable life begins with a livable space.
-
New Roots offers refugee & immigrant families a dignified shopping experience. Rather than receiving pre-selected items, individuals and families will have the opportunity to choose what they need and want for their homes—empowering them with autonomy and restoring a sense of normalcy during a time of transition.
-
New Roots will be stocked entirely through community contributions and partnerships with local businesses & nonprofits, reinforcing a spirit of mutual aid and shared responsibility. This program meets tangible needs and fosters connection between long-time residents and new neighbors, building a more welcoming and compassionate community for all. Payment donations on the goods will go back to New Roots & other GCC services.

Dignity. Respect. Cross-Cultural.
